David Lewis grew up in an aviation family, so flying has been part of his life from the beginning. He joined the military at 17 as an Army Ranger with the 1st Ranger Battalion in Savannah, GA, before attending flight school and spending nearly 23 years flying Apache helicopters.
During his Army career, David led aviation teams, standardized training programs, and advised senior leaders on everything from aviation operations to strategic planning. He managed large-scale training efforts for Apache units and helped develop instructional programs for both U.S. and allied aviation officers.
After retiring from the military, David brought his experience to the FAA, where he developed expertise in airman and operator certification, aviation accident investigations, and certificate oversight for operators flying for hire. As Principal Operations Inspector, he's working directly with air carriers to ensure they meet the highest safety and regulatory standards.
David is an ATP-rated pilot with more than 6,000 flight hours and multiple instructor and examiner qualifications. He holds degrees from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and Michigan State University, and he’s currently pursuing a Doctorate in Strategic Leadership at Liberty University.
