Checkrides with David Lewis, DPE

General information

Checkrides will be primarily conducted in Clarksville, TN, at KCKV. Under certain situations, I will conduct checkrides out of other airports in the Middle Tennessee area. 

Types of checkrides currently available

Airplane Single Engine Land (ASEL):

  • Private
  • Instrument
  • Commercial
  • CFI add-on
  • CFII add-on


Airplane Multi Engine Land (AMEL):

  • Private
  • Instrument
  • Commercial
  • Multi-Engine Instructor
  • Airline Transport Pilot

AMEL aircraft authorized for checkrides: BE-95, DA-42, PA-44, PA-32


Helicopter:

  • Private
  • Instrument
  • Commercial
  • CFI add-on
  • CFII add on
  • Airline Transport Pilot

Helicopters authorized for checkrides: R-44, R-66, B-206, B-505, B-407, Huges/Schweizer 296/300, Enstrom

Night Vision Goggles (NVG) 


Administrative functions:

  • Foreign Pilot Examiner (FPE): This is in-person only.
  • Military Competency Examiner (MCE): May be conducted virtually.
  • Ground Instructor Examiner (GIE): May be conducted virtually.
  • Flight Instructor Renewal Examiner (FIRE): May be conducted virtually.
  • Basic Administrative Examiner (BAE): May be conducted virtually.

Scheduling a checkride

How to schedule an FAA Practical Exam with David Lewis, DPE

Prior to requesting a checkride, the applicant should be endorsed and fully qualified. Send an email with your request and the following information to david@aerotechstrategies.com:


  • Applicant name
  • Applicant phone number
  • FTN
  • Type of checkride
  • Type of aircraft to be used (exactly as it'll be entered in IACRA)
  • Part 61 or 141; if 141, name and designation number of approved school
  • Instructor name and contact number


If we are unable to accomodate you, you will be directed to enter your information into this Checkride Waitlist.

Checkride costs

Cash only. Credit cards will be accepted for all administrative functions, excluding Foreign Pilot Examiner.


$1000 for all checkrides. Discontinuances will be handled on a case-by-case basis.


For administrative functions:

  • Foreign Pilot Examiner (FPE): $400
  • Military Competency Examiner (MCE): $150
  • Ground Instructor Examiner (GIE): $150
  • Flight Instructor Renewal Examiner (FIRE): $150
  • Basic Administrative Examiner (BAE): $150
    • SIC, SOE limitation removals, Remote Pilot Certificates, ATP Limitation Removal

Before your checkride

The checkride scenario will be sent to you directly after you have scheduled.


IACRA must be complete at least two days before your checkride.

Rescheduling & cancellation policy

There is always the possibility of rescheduling due illness, weather, etc. If this were to happen, we will work together to reschedule accordingly.


In cases of cancellation, if the applicant cancels more than 72 hours before their checkride, there is no cancellation fee. Within less than 72 hours, cancellations are only acceptable in cases of valid illnesses and weather. Nerves are not a valid reason.
